Catholic Schools Inspectorate
National Framework from September 2022
Roman Catholic Schools within the United kingdom, are inspected under Section 48 or Section 50 of the Educations Act 2005 (http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukga/2005/18/section/48).
The Catholic Schools Inspectorate (CSI) statutory inspections are explained in Ofsted's School Inspection Handbook. (to access the handbook go to https:/www.gov.uk/government/publications)
Inspections are carried out by Diocesan Catholic Schools Inspectors acting on behalf of the Bishop of Middlesbrough. Inspectors represent the Bishop and therefore must be practising Catholics in full communion with the Catholic Church.
In the instance where the Diocesan School is part Roman Catholic and part Church of England, the school will be inspected under a specific joint framework. The new framework will be issued in due course.
